What is operations management?
Operations are generally used as an inclusive term to refer to the corporate area responsible for actually producing goods and services. This integrates all the activities required to create and deliver a product or service, from selecting suppliers and/or raw materials to supply chain management and distribution. This branch deals with the optimum utilization of resources for delivering quality product or services.
Making optimum utilization of Men, Machine, Method, Measurement system, Material and Mother Nature for delivering the best quality of product and services is the challenge in front of business professionals in operations. Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) is the familiar term used to make effective and efficient use of men and machine for an economic business result. This is taken care in studying this specialization; it also includes an overview of supply chain management which is an integral part of Operations management.
Operations management deals with planning, organizing, supervising and controlling the context of manufacturing of product or services. Operations manager has to deal with supply chain and logistics section as well, though in large Organizations there are separate experts available.
