Due to globalization, modernization and technological advancement new careers and opportunities are emerging while the past concepts and ideas are getting abolished at a very high pace. In a professional career at post graduate level an urgent need is felt to address the change and develop students for managing the changing environment effectively. It was found that the students even at post graduate level lack employable skills like communication, professionalism and technology orientation. It is required to channelize the students towards a focused goal by giving them right skills, exposure to business situation and interaction with industry expert on regular basis. At the same time create awareness about their own strengths and weaknesses for further self development. The Institute has carefully developed career enhancement programme and self development programme to boost the self confidence of the students along with right exposure to industry and business for overall grooming.

The SDP and CEP programme has been conducted for past two years with required modification. The success of the programme is evident from following areas of improvement.
These observations are based on the statistical data and also the feedback from stakeholders like industry, faculty and parents through various interactions and feedback from students.
The programme has been modified over a time. There were some problems in the initial phase as follows
Conflicts are the outcomes of difference of opinion and unlike old school of thought, now conflicts are regarded as „signals of democratic working and open minds „. Adding further to this thought it is essential to consider every dissatisfied stakeholder as an internal advisor and treat him as an asset rather than an interruption. “Need is the mother of invention”. New ideas and innovative concepts will arise out of the desire to resolve problems and issues. The collective efforts to solve the problems through „suggestion scheme‟can be more effective if it is systematically nurtured in any organization. IICMR has been closely working with INSAAN which is an association primarily of large manufacturing industries like TATA Motors, SKF Ltd. since year 2011 and the power of suggestion scheme was experienced by IICMR management. The concept of Suggestion Scheme was introduced at IICMR in the year 2012. It has now become an effective platform for pooling collective wisdom by allowing stakeholders innovative ideas to surface and express. Translating these ideas into practice which brings results in the form of improvements to overall efficiency of the Institute and providing stakeholders, a sense of meaningful contribution in the management processes.
Following diagram shows practices followed in introducing Suggestion Scheme at IICMR.
i] IICMR has signed MOU with Indian National Suggestion Schemes’ Association (INSAAN)-Western India Chapter, Pune and IICMR.
ii] Two MBA students of IICMR were selected by INSSAN for Summer Internship Projects to understand the importance of Suggestion Schemes in Engineering Industries.

iv] IICMR started to implement Suggestion Scheme @ IICMR for the Institute‟s stakeholders such as Management, Faculty, Staff and Students.
v] With the expertise of IICMR & INSSAN

ii] Enhanced quality of work life through stakeholder‟s participation by giving them an opportunity for self expression and increasing the sense of belonging to the Institute.
iii] Creating awareness about converting a grievance into a suggestion
iv] Received innovative suggestion from all levels of employees many of which are even taken up as small projects by faculty members and students for improving performance of various processes and systems in the Institute some of which includes
i] The perspective of industry and educational Institute to look at suggestion is different.
ii] The employees look upon suggestion as complaint hence effort required to change mindset.
ii] Employees need immediate effect of the suggestion else get demotivated very fast.

Alumni shared that active participation during the lectures and activity has not only groomed their personality but also help them to excel in their career.
